This is an optics ready model, with a low profile gas block, so you can switch out tha hand guard of you want to run a free float hand guard or whatever. The A2 style gas block found on some ARs or M4/M16 also doubles as the front site block. Most ( not all but most) optics ready ar's come without back up iron sites because these models are generally purchased by customers that want a full range of customization (my ARs are all optics ready and neither came with irons) you can add after market irons from magpul or Troy industries or any manufacturer or you can just run an optic with no back up irons.
