To be honest unless you're buying a used gun,  or buying a gun where the manufacturer has a bad reputation for being difficult to work with for warranty, or a company that really doesn't have much of a presence in the USA ( Like all the Turkish tactical shotguns, or any manufacturer that is solely distributed through an importrer) then is really not worth it.
SW, Hk, CZ, Ruger, Springfield any of the big companies are gonna stand behind their products so I'd skip the additional warranty on those, 
But for used and imports (with no USA division) for sure
