I have read so many disclaimers on restrictions for Illinois/Cook County about AR15/AK47 rifles. Basically we can't legally own them. But I was told we can own a AR15/AK47 "Pistol" not the rifle but the "Pistol" and the length of the barrel couldn't be over 10.5" and the Mag capacity couldn't be over 10rd. Do anyone have any knowledge on this subject?

Be advised that Chicago Municipal Code 8-20-010 (Assault Weapons Ban) identifies 'AK & AR handguns' specifically as included in their definition of 'Assault Weapons' regardless of caliber or magazine capacity ... Additionally AK & AR pistols would be included as having magazines not enclosed inside the pistol-grip, making them Assault Weapons. ...
* You'd be really putting yourself at risk by trying to own one, likely not worth the risk.

Markus, Cook County Illinois restrictions applies to ANY AR/AK Pattern Receiver firearm including Pistols Sir. Cheers and stay safe!

Chicago resident here. AR15/AK47 "Pistol"  is a GRAY AREA in cook county/ Chicago law and there have been no court cases regarding it ownership. From the eye of the state, yes, it is legal. But this is an uncharted territory of law and you should proceed at your own risk. That being said, practically NO large retailer, including Buds, will sell you AR15/AK47 "Pistol" if you show that you have Illinois/Cook County on your FOID. You best luck is local physical gun store. I hope this helps
