I'm not a Mossberg fan, but a Savage at the same price point are pretty close

Mossberg has come a ways with better quality control and are comparable to similarly priced Savages. Once you hit the higher priced stuff the Savages are notably ahead.

I like Savage a good bit. Never let me down yet.
