Sig makes quality handguns, however they have had some issues with quality control in the past, and have not been very upfront with their customers concerning safety issues when they do arise. When the P320 1st came out it was having issues with not being "Drop safe" a striker fired pistol is supposed to have a firing pin block that keeps the gun from shooting if dropped, and instead of recalling them sig did a soft (quite) optional send in and repair offer, then later pice departments in Indiana an Illinois has issues with the guns firing while holstered, with no trigger pull, again sig down played it, there were lock up issues with the p365 when it came out too. But all that said this is a good pistol now that they have all the links worked out, and a version of the p320 (M17) has won the US military contract and is the side arm of the US army. I like sigs guns but their ethics of using their customers for R&D guinea pigs is no good. Now that the issues have been fixed with p320,

Good alternatives are the SW M&P 2.0, Springfield XDM, CZ P10, HK VP9, FN509, Ruger American, Glock 19, and the Berreta APX. Those are all very similar very proven (Safe, reliable, effective) pistols and most are availble, at many retailers.

It is a decent pistol, the modular design allows for different grips and whatnot.

Ron, Sig has had both civilian and military contracts for decades Sir. They have been tested for thousands of hours and have held up with the likes of Glock's, Beretta's etc which are world renowned for reliability of function and long service life. Also another plus is that Sig has excellent Customer Service after the sale which is a selling point in and of itself. No worries with the P320. Cheers and stay safe!

I own four 320s ... three 9mm and one .45. They are excellent shooters, easy to work on or modify. The "drop safety" issue is old news. Two of my 9s were early models and I sent them in for the upgrades and were returned in fast time with no charges. My two others are newer and not subject to the voluntary recall. Most every manufacturer has had recalls at one time or the other. There are many 320 models available from sub-compact carry guns to full size competition models, Plus every imaginal custom part from triggers to grip frames to slides to sights. Once you buy one and get the fire control unit you can build almost anything you want from there. While there are other polymer, striker fired guns out there few are in the class of the Sig.
