It will indeed, retention in kydex holsters happen more around the Cylinder and the Frame and don't do a whole lot of grabbing at the barrel, I know a guy who carries a G19 (4"barrel) in a G34 (5.31" barrel) holster and the retention is just as good with the shorter gun as it is with the longer g34. He carries that way because the more surface area on the holster creates a longer point of contact between his pants and his leg, he says it causes the gun to shift around alot less
