Paul, marine is just the name of the color.

It is indeed just the name of the color/pattern this is a Cerakote (same as the other colors) cerakote has excellent corrosion resistance but can chip off if impacted, but the Hanguard and other cerakoted parts are aluminum, and aluminum isn't very prone to rust or corrosion due to low iron content.
