never hurts to get a bill of sale also
I live in PA, here I can sell an AR to anyone who's legally allowed to own a gun without going through an FFL. Just hand write a bill of sale and I'm good to go. Your state may be different.
If you can sell a long gun in your state without going through a dealer, the AR can be sold the same way. (In most states) you can sell it to your buddy with a hand written receipt and you're totally legal. If you sell more then 5 a year for profit, you're required to do a legal registered transfer.
Ken, this is considered a "Private" sale and legal. Just get a copy of the buyers ID credentials and a typed or hand written Bill of Sale to keep for your records.
