Yes it is smooth bore, and technically you could fire standard ammo out of it but its not recommended. As it has no rifling it would not stabilize the projectile, which would drop you muzzle energy, velocity, range and accuracy would not be very good at all. The point of these are to be used as a garden gun to eliminate pests, near your home where you don't want to worry about a stray round going into your house

Howard, yes Sir, this garden gun has a 18.5" Smooth Bore Barrel (No Rifling). The advantage is that when shooting shot shells, the pattern is much tighter because there is no rifling to disrupt and spread/disrupt the shot pattern. Cheers and stay sfe@
