22lr shortages were NOT an issue before 2020 I bought 2,000 rounds for around $0.05 per round I bought them in January Or February of last year, (I also bought a bunch all through 2018 and 2019) 22LR was stil Widely available here where I'm at in Oregon until like June. I think people like to stock up on 22lr because its inexpensive, so you can do alot of plinking and not spend alot of money. I also know a few people that do use 22LR for a personal defense round (not my thing but therre are plenty out there that do) it is also a great round for younger shooters, Women, children, elderly, and people who May have physical disabilities, or are recoil Sensitive. One reason why this round will be Slow to restock is because ammo manufacturers have to change over their tooling and dyes to produce this ammo, and the profit margin is nowhere near as high on 22lr as it is on more popular calibers ( 223, 9mm, 45acp, etc)

Herb, there was no shortage of .22lr before the covid. I could walk into any gun shop and buy as mush as I wanted last February. True, most don't buy it for defense, but when the SHTF, and people start hoarding ammo, they also hoard .22 for fear they won't be able to get any later. People want to be able to go plinking or whatever. This ammo will come back when other calibers come back. You can find it if you look around, but the prices have skyrocketed.

No ammo shortage the last 4 years until Covid. It's out there, you just have to look around and probably pay a little more than before.
