Sorry to hear that. The best stuff for cleaning rust is Kroil. Made by Kano Labs.
You can use #0000 steel wool with gun oil to remove the rust if it is just surface rust. This will need to be done prior to waxing the steel. after hand rubbing with the steel wool and oil, wipe the surface dry with a cotton cloth and apply several coats of paste wax.
If the surface rust is really light, you can use a #2 pencil and rub the lead over the rust, the lead will remove the rust without harming the surface of the gun, re-oil and if the surface rust is deeper then go with Jason T.'s answer.
