James, this would work for both Sir. The actual load selected for the task at hand will be more or a determining factor for versatility than the shotgun itself. Cheers and stay safe!
I actually use the Maverick 88 for skeet shooting, hunting, and just for all around target practice. It's a very versatile gun and will work for just about anything. On the plus side it holds a few more rounds as well, which comes in especially well for skeet shooting. I've also used mine dove hunting and did very well if that tells you anything. Good luck.
