The QD quickly detaches the mount from the whatever rail you have it mounted on, there is a lever you turn to unclamp it from the firearm its mounted to and the while rig comes off. 2nd picture here shows the mount better https://www.rsrgroup.com/product/USOTSR-1XQDMOUNT

David, the whole assembly removes with quick detach mount.
