Yes reddots can be mounted anywhere on your rail, as Trin said the eye relief on this dot is unlimited, and you shouldn't try to look through the optic window when using a red dot, your vision should be target focused (both eyes open) , and then you pull the dot in line with where your looking, and yours eyes should superimpose the dot on what your pointing it at.

Yes this has unlimited eye relief but I don't recommend putting any sight on a handguard cause handguards tend to shift and that can take away your sights zero meaning you'll have to readjust it. When people like putting red dots further out I always tell them no further than the end of your receiver.
