Ruger does not use the term gen 1 or 2 they have 2 different LCPs the LCP and the LCP II that being said this is the upgraded standard LCP (2nd generation) as the upgrades were done in 2013
There is no Gen1 or Gen 2. Ruger largely copied the Keltec and made the original LCP. Two or so years ago they made the Custom model (with an improved red trigger). About a year ago they developed the LCP II (with a lighter trigger than the original LCP, larger sights, slide holds open on empty magazine, slightly wider frame and handle, and weights 1 oz. more). The one pictured appears to be the original LCP.
There actually was changes made to the original LCP that didn't get a model number change but many referred to it as gen 2 because the trigger pull was significantly improved. Buds sells at huge volumes so there's no chance you'll get the older lcp. If you have an original lcp this one has a better trigger even though it's still DAO.
