Philip, 38 Special in the long bore will develop less recoil in the long bore as the higher pressure 9mm load in the regular bore barrel. This boils down to a matter of choice of the firearm platform itself. Cheers and stay safe!

38 special has a little less recoil than 9mm but not by alot. You can always get Milder recoiling 38sp to shoot in it and obviously the bigger the barrel the heavier the pistol the less recoil. I don't think it'd be to bad with a long bore one. Hope this helps.
