This will work with any 45 long colt ammo. As Randy said the lighter velocity cowboy loads would be fine for target practice. For self defense I love gold dot in any caliber but for 45lc gold dot 250gr 775fps, it's a little slower round but it's been proven to be very effective. Hope this helps.
