It will shoot and cycle 22LR with no issues, it will shoot 22 short safely but will likely not cycle.

Yup, it sure will. I own one and really like it, pretty accurate and a fun little plinker. And it will shoot 22lr, 22long, and 22short equally well one of the joys of a lever action. Hope this helps.
