Could someone explain the differences in the variations-Euro vs. American and recommend which would be best for prairie dog hunting out to ranges of 300 yds.

From what I'm reading only major difference is the American is smaller and lighter. It has a shorter barrel,shorter length of pull. Personally I'd choose the Euro for prairie dog hunting, the longer barrels going to give a decent boost in velocity Wich will really help on 300+ yard shots. The Americans a great gun and cz makes some of the best rifles but for your needs, Wich is shooting small objects from far off a bigger barrels always your friend. I'd definitely go with the Euro. Hope this helps.
