It comes with one 5 round magazine and from what I hear it's pretty reliable. All the reviews I've seen are people praising it, so I'd say it's not a turd. Hope this helps.

This is a good reliable shotgun, for the price you'll be hard pressed to find one better, especially an AR style magazine fed shotgun like this one. There may be a break in period of a couple boxes of ammo but after that this will make a fine home defense weapon.
