Curtis, the Ruger is reliable with a wide variety of factory new 5.56 and .223 ammunition. That said, I highly recommend PMC X-Tac : https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/714008840/pmc%2bxtac%2b556nato%2b55gr%2bfmjbt%2b20rd%2bbox
Right now I would say any ammo that you can find at a reasonable price I shoot a lot of Wolf Gold (brass cased)
Ruger ars are pretty reliable, so you shouldn't have issues with most ammo. I like fiochhi, pmc, and Remington umc. For defense ammo I'd probably go speer gold dot soft point, or hordany 73gr eld. Hope this helps
I have a Ruger 556 MPR, and I've never had a failure of any kind with several different ammo types, I've shot Winchester, Federal AE, Hornady, and yesterday ran some IMI through it. Its been 100% reliable. With my AR I just do as I do with all my guns and keep them clean and lubed (clean every 1,000rds Lube essential parts before every range session) Clean with balistol, lubed with Hoppes needle oiler.
