Robert the SCCY CPX would work fine for you. I have 2 in which my wife carries one. After I tested it and got her accustomed to shooting/carrying it, it has been proven very reliable. As a side note, I would have no issue recommending a similar pistol with a 13rd capacity (12+1), the Taurus PT-111 Millennium G2. My wife alternates between carrying these 2 pistols and is equally comfortable with both. Either will suit your needs just fine.
with the right holster it should work well for you. Also look at the Ruger LC9 check around and see if any ranges near you have them (or others in this size class) that you can try before buying
