From what I'm reading Smith and Wesson changed to cardboard. The older models actually came in a plastic hard case, but newer models come in a cardboard box now, I read several reviews of people having issues with this. If you bought it from here I highly doubt they would of sold a used gun as new and all their used ones are clearly marked used. Think it's just Smith and Wesson trying to save a few bucks by switching to cardboard. Hope this helps.

Yea its a new gun, buds can't legally sell used guns without clearly labeling them as such. My SW M&P M2.0 Performance Center model came in a Carboard box nearly all SW pistols are coming in a blue cardboard box now. I went onto sw website and bought a software for mine.
