It is actually chambered for 556 it states this for this exact upc/model number on delto s website. Halfway down the page is a box that says description, then next to that is a tab you can press that says " technical specs" hit that button and it clearly says this is chambered and intended for 556. https://www.del-ton.com/Rifle-Kit-p/rkt106.htm

According to delton this is actually chambered for 5.56, so yes 223 is safe to fire in this 5.56 barrel. Never fire 5.56 out of a 223 barrel though since 5.56 has higher pressures and can cause injury. Even though delton says this is 5.56 I always recommend people to check the barrel after buying, it will clearly be stamped either 223 rem or 5.56. if it's stamped 5.56 then you can shoot either.
