This would be fine but make sure your local hunting laws allow it. I live in Pennsylvania and they don't allow any semi automatics for hunting. Normally bolt action or lever action is preferred but as long as you're local laws allow it this would be fine for hunting, 308 has taken many of deer in its life. Hope this helps.
