I know the gun says it rated for 357. However ,I was wondering with it being based of an older design. Can it handle extended use with standard loads of 357?

YES, this can handle modern 357 perfectly fine...the metallurgy is very modern.  As matter of fact, it will handle Buffalo Bore .357 ammo. However, heavy usage of Buffalo Bore can really increase wear on your gun. I hope this helps

This will be fine shooting standard pressure loads. Youd probably even be fine using +p ammunition although I wouldnt recommend it in large quantities.
