Yes, the Mossberg Maverick 88, began production in 1988, at mossbergs "Maverick, Texas" location.

ALEJANDRO, yes Sir it was. The Maverick line of shotguns is assembled in Eagle Pass, Texas, using some parts manufactured outside of the United States, mainly from Mexico, which contributes to their relatively lower price in comparison to the Mossberg 500 series of shotguns.

Yes, the maverick 88 was made by Mossberg to be the working man's shotgun and has interchangeable parts with the Mossberg 500. Hope this helps.
