Steve, Tavor states 7.62 NATO on it's website Sir. I'm sure it can handle .308 but due to safety and warranty reasons, I would ask IWI Customer Service directly for an accurate answer at 1-717-695-2081 Monday - Friday: 9 AM - 4:30 PM ET. Cheers and stay safe! ---- https://iwi.us/product/tavor-7-7-62-nato-16-5-barrel/
308 is actually a hotter round than 7.62×51, you would think the NATO round would have more pressure but it doesn't. So it's safe to fire 7.62×51 out of any 308 but not always the case the other way around. This is a debate between people some saying in modern rifles you'll be fine and others saying don't try it. For the most part in a modern rifle like tavor I don't see an issue, although I wouldn't try to find the highest velocity 308 you can, I'd stick to lower velocity/pressure 308 loads. Calling tavor might help at 717-695-2081 or email at Info@IWI.US but most likely for safety reasons they'll tell you not to do it. Hope this helps.
