Think that's just from the light on the picture. Being used buds doesn't use the correct upc or model number Wich makes it hard to find the correct model but pretty sure I found the correct one and the frame, slide and Barrel are all made out of stainless steel. As for how old the model is you would have to contact buds customer service at 859-368-0371 Monday thru Friday 9am to 9pm to find out. We're customers as yourself not buds employees. Hope this helps.
