The grips that come with the gun are best. Rubber bikini style grips or skate board tape tend to get wrapped up in your clothes and impede your draw. You want a fairly smooth grip that won't stick to anything or wear holes in you or your clothes for concealed carry.
Mike - I would suggest staying away from the 'slip on' type rubber grips. I know lots of folks use them, but I've found that Murphy's Law always comes into effect at the worst possible time. I have one of the newer Shield (.45) which has the newer grip and find it a very good grip, which pretty well bridges the gap between not enough 'grip' and too much 'grip'. S&W really hit the mark on this Shield, in my opinion, as far as grips. If you don't want to consider one of these new .45 Shields, maybe you can have some stippling done on your present Shield, to provide a bit more 'gripiness' for you. There's usually someone around who can do this, for a reasonable fee.
