Just my opinion, but a I would look into the following combo for a precision 6.5 ad a quality scope to match. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/2084_36_59_110/products_id/18539/Ruger+18008+Precision+Rifle+Bolt+6.5+Cr+24+MB+10%2B1+ & https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/26_99/products_id/712010080/LEU+VX2+6-18X40+AO+CDS+MATTE+WIND-PLEX.
for optics it will depend on what you want to do with the gun. Red dots are great for close in fast shooting. long range a good scope is the only way to go. as far as Savage or Ruger they are both good rifles but I am partial to Ruger because of the outstanding Customer service I had from them on a 40 (made in 1976) year old single six when I had problems with it
The simple lesson I was taught was buy a good quality rifle and the BEST scope you can afford. That may not answer your specific question but it's been good advice for me. Hope that helps, Derek.
The Vortex Viper Scope for the Savage https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/411547073/Viper+6.5-20x50+PA+Riflescope+with+Dead-Hold+BDC+Reticle and for the Ruger the I'd pair it with a Creed
I have a RPR in 6.5 creed. I use a Vortex Viper. If you want to shoot 1600 yards, need to go to the vortex hd line. 1000 yards in Viper is fine.
