speaking from experience a 20 ga semi auto will make a much better youth shotgun get something like a used 1100 and pick up a 2nd stock that can then be cut to the proper length. With the 20 ga they will hit more targets and with the semi auto recoil will not be a issue plus 20 ga shells are much les expensive
