My dad had one my uncle's all had one and I had one. Major advantage is based upon the fact that most hunters use pump shotguns for small game hunting. That translates into familiarity with the type of action and allows for better efficiency when going from small game hunting to big game hunting. They also come in most calibers used for deer. Good gun and reliable. I really can't think of any cons outside of cost. They are a little bit expensive.
