Yes, this uses the same 9mm round as a handgun would use. As for the best round, my preferred target rounds are blazer. My favorite defense rounds are either speer gold dot gdhp, or federal hst both fantastic defense rounds. Hope this helps.

Alexander, yes this takes the same 9mm cartridges as a handgun. Any brand will work, just make sure to try a box first before stocking up. Some guns are finicky with certain brands.
