yes it will fire 38special ammo with no problems you will have to clean the chamber after shooting a lot of 38 special tom remove the carbon ring that builds up at the front of the shorter 38 special this carbon build up can cause it to be hard to chamber the longer 357 ammo

Yes. Many people fire .38 Special for practice (cheaper & less recoil). However, you should fire couple cylinders of .357 Magnum when finishing practice to clean out extra fouling buildup.
