they are using the terms loosely. The ATF calls the M&P (Glock and several others) a DAO (double action only) pistol. Granted, pulling the trigger does draw the striker back from a half cocked position before releasing it, however I don't think these pistols can truly be classified as DAO.
The lighter pull of a cocked hammer fired semi-automatic can make it much easier to keep your sights on target when firing your first shot. Double-action strikers will typically have less energy than hammer fired guns. Most striker fired pistols, particularly Glocks, cannot be de-cocked.
