Glenn, similar to shooting .38 Special in a .357 mag is that the shorter shell creates a carbon buildup that can cause the longer shell/case to bind up and not slide smooth. Clean your chamber and then retry the 3 inch shells. If it works then you know to shoot only 2 3/4 or 3 inch during a shooting session or clean your chamber between switching between the 2 3/4 to 3 inch (longer shell). If after a 50rd break in period it still jams with 3 inch shells, the gun may need to be looked at in further detail. Cheers and stay safe!
