From a quick Google search it would seem the xp hunter comes ready to go with a scope and rail already mounted on the rifle while the hunter series does not

Richard, the only difference is the pre- mounted and bore sighted Vortex® Crossfire II 3-9x40mm Scope on the XP. It is actually a decent scope for the money. Cheers and stay safe!
