Alan, as a fellow NJ resident, I can add some insight. HP's are legal to own and use on your own property OR a gun range. It is NOT legal to transport in your vehicle unless you are going directly to a range from your house, or vice versa. They are the only exceptions to transport. If you are caught with even one HP in your vehicle, and you are not going to/from a range/gunshop, you can/will be charged with a felony offense. If you have HP bullets, and buy a new house, to legally get them to your new house, you would have to take them from your old house to a gun range first, then transport them to your new home. If you are using it for self defense on your property, and you shoot someone and it is not deemed a self defense shooting, there can/will be additional charges for illegally using hollow points. NJ gun laws are f'd up. Yes, they are legal, but be careful, there are many traps.
