Keith, handguns must be on the CA DOJ roster of approved handguns. Basically, the gun manufacturer must pay CA a $200 extortion fee to get their gun on the roster. Keith, CA compliant means that the manufacturer has applied and gotten the firearm certified to be sold in CA. Once this happens the firearm is placed on the CA DOJ Handgun Roster here (You can search by manufacturer) : https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/certified-handguns/search?make=All
