Nat, no, the 20ga 5 round magazines won't work with a 12 gauge. This will take any vr82 magazine. This has a 3 inch chamber so it will fire 2-3/4 inch and 3 inch shells safely. You can shoot bird shot, buck shot or slugs. Since this has a smooth bore rifled slugs will get the best accuracy. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
