I use lead cci mini mags in mine. Seems to work the best for me. The woodsman I have is a first run that I got from my grandad.
Alan, the best would be eley but it's pricey. Here's a link if interested.. https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/713070299/eley+match+22+lr+40gr+eps+50rd+box. Here's a link to a cheaper brand but works great here.. https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/89892/cci+0035+22+lr+40+gr+standard+velocity+50rds. Hope this helps.
Any version of CCI would be a good choice to use in any .22. Been using it for years with never a failure. Great ammo.
Use standard velocity rounds, lead or copper plated makes no significant difference. Would suggest 40 gr bullets. These old guns were made before the high / hyper velocity rounds so common today.
