It's actually made of Nylon. All nylons are plastic, not all plastics are nylon. I've had mine for maybe 9 months, and only 500 rounds through it. No issues thus far. Just fired and then cleaned it the other day. Plastic main spring housing looks fine. I didn't see any cracks starting. Actually, no wear to speak of at all on it. I don't see it becoming an issue anytime real soon... As as has been stated, you can replace it very inexpensively with a metal one to add a bit of counter weight to lessen recoil. For the record, this is a low stress area on the firearm.

Plastic. It's easy to replace with a steel one and if you shoot it a lot and disassemble it a lot to deep clean it the metal pin that holds it tends to shear a little plastic every time you knock it in and out so it will wear. if you shoot very little and don't disassemble the gun it won't be a problem.
