It will work well if only using facrory ammunition on a Savage "Short Action". It is much better built on a long action if you reload are use custom ammunition. Short actions can be altered considerably but most of the bottom lug is ground away much like .375 H & H's on 98's. Go long action and never have a worry about length.

Long action seems like the way to go.
