Andrew, the 1012 uses a gas-less inertia operating system. Instead of redirecting gas from the barrel to run the action, the 1012 uses a spring within the bolt to store energy during the shotgun's recoil, spending this energy a split second later to rotate and unlock the twin lugs from the barrel extension and withdraw the spent shell. Andrew, The CZ 1012 utilizes a gas-less inertia operating system instead of a typical gas operated model that are so common on gun racks today. Typical gas operated systems function by redirecting gas directly from the barrel in order to cycle the action. Now the 1012 function in a totally different way using a spring which is housed in the bolt that stores energy during the recoil operation. Then the spring uses the stored energy just a moment later leading to the extraction and ejection of the spent shotshell hull. Additionally the inertia system doesn't require as strict of a maintenance schedule like gas guns. During CZ's testing of the 1012 they were able to run 5000 rounds without oil and cleaning. During that test the gun performed flawlessly with zero broken parts and zero malfunctions. So during normal field use with cleaning and oiling you can rest assured that your 1012 will perform.
