Barry, this will work fine with bird shot, buck shot or slugs. It has a smooth bore so rifled slugs will work best. This also has a 3 inch chamber so it can shoot 2-3/4 inch or 3 inch shells. This will cycle just about anything you put threw it. Hope this helps.

Barry, it will cycle birdshot as well as slugs and buckshot. The owners manual does not specify any certain minimum load, so it should cycle most loads. You may need to use high velocity shells (1300 fps or higher), especially during break in period. After that, experiment to see what it will handle reliably. Have a great day!

Barry, it will cycle loads at 1200 fps or higher including bird shot. Since this shotgun has a 3 inch chamber, it can fire 3 inch and shorter 12 gauge shells (2 3/4) no issue. It is recommended to break it in with high power shells (50 or so) initially and then clean and re-lube.
