Scott, the hand guard, trigger and stock are interchangeable. This is a dedicated 22lr rifle and would need a bolt and heavier buffer spring. You would probably be better off buying a 22lr conversion kit for a base 5.56 rifle platform than converting a base 22 platform. This is for the sake of reliability.
