Richard, the barrel is stamped .223 Remington so it is not recommended to fire 5.56Nato ammunition. Cheers and stay safe!

Richard, unfortunately this model only accepts 223, not 5.56. you can shoot 223 threw a 5.56 but not vice versa. Unless you want to shoot 62 grain green tipped ammo 223 is the way to go anyways. It's usually a little cheaper and has a much wider selection of ammo. I have several 5.56 NATO rifles and pistols and rarely shoot 5.56 out of them. Hope this helps.

Richard, no, this rifle is rated for .223 only. You should not fire 5.56 from it. Have a great day!
