Robert, yes, it would still be fine in California but the frame on the birds head models are different from this version. so don't believe any of the birds head grips would fit this model. Only way to add a birds head grip would be by buying a different frame. If you Google the upc 302-0002-01 heritage makes a different frame/backstap to accommodate the birds head grip that will fit this. So you could add the birds head grip that way. Hope this helps.
