Jeffery, it depends on state law so your question is better addressed to your FFL. In Nevada, the FFL collects sales tax. Wouldn't be surprised if Illinois did. Ask an FFL.
No. But many FFL holders will charge you sales tax and put it in their own pockets. The FFL holder should only charge you a nominal transfer fee. Don't be scammed. My gunsmith who also holds a FFL doesn't collect sales tax on guns purchased by me out of state which I have shipped to him, plus he only charges a $10 transfer fee.
